School on Advanced Techniques on Radiotherapy, IMRT, IGRT and VMAT

The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP, Italy) and the Asociación Guatemalteca de Fìsica (AGF) are jointly organizing a school on "Advanced Techniques on Radiotherapy, IMRT, IGRT and VMAT", to be held in Guatemala City from 7 to 11 October 2013. Experienced medical physics professors and researchers will guide participants during the plenary sessions.
Medical physics has had a fast progress in the last decades, achieving a better conformation with the latest advancements in technology. However these developments require higher standards for quality assurance in every process related to medical physics activities. Latin America has been lagged behind this improvement, but the expectation of our countries is to implement new treatment modalities in their treatment centres. Some of these countries have very modern and updated facilities and equipment located in a few centres. This School considers it necessary to inform and report issues of great interest for new treatment modalities to the recent and future users of these technologies.

Training Course on Medical Physics for Radiation Therapy: Dosimetry and Treatment Planning for Basic and Advanced Applications

The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), will organize a Training Course on Medical Physics for Radiation Therapy to take place from 25 November to 6 December 2013. The topic will be: Applied Physics of Medical Radiation Therapy - From Science to Effective Clinical Medicine. The Course will specially address the needs of Healthcare in low and middle income countries.
The objective of the Training Course on Medical Physics is to contribute to the understanding of Physics applied to Radiation Therapy and the development of competent medical physicists who can make a direct contribution to the improvement of health care in their countries through better radiation therapy. This will be achieved by providing participants with education and practical training to enhance their effectiveness as future disseminators of this knowledge, who can provide in turn educational and training opportunities to other medical professionals and students.
